Every year on the Sunday before Veterans Day in November, the American Gold Star Mothers of Indian River County hold its annual Walk-A-Thon for Military Suicide Awareness. This 2.2-mile walk around Vero Beach's Riverside Park, including Veteran's Memorial Island Sanctuary, is the organizations primary fundraiser, and is combined with a Veteran's resources Expo. Veterans, families and friends are encouraged to come out to raise awareness of this tragic circumstance and learn about programs, discounts, businesses and organizations are available for Veterans and their families.
